Madrid rider Jorge Martín (Del Conca Gresini Moto3) was the fastest rider at the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya de MotoGP™. Martín secured his fourth consecutive pole position (and fifth in the season), and will be flanked by two local drivers, Arón Canet (Estrella Galicia 0,0) and Juanfran Guevara (RBA BOE Racing Team) under the start lights.
Canet sat on the top of the timesheets both in the morning and for most of the 40-minute qualifying practice. A fantastic last-minute flying 1m 53.368s lap afforded Martín the top spot on the grid, from where he will attempt his first win of the season in tomorrow’s race.
After showing a fantastic pace throughout the session, Arón Canet (second overall in the championship, +0.627s) and Juanfran Guevara (+0.659s) will complete the first row.
The Spanish Armada includes two more riders in the second row, with championship leader Joan Mir (Leopard Racing) in fifth place (+0.668s), and Marcos Ramírez (Platinum Bay Real Estate) in sixth (+0.758s), both behind 4th placed Romano Fenati (Marinelli Rivacold Snipers), 0.663s off the lead.
Fabio di Giannantonio (Del Conca Gresini Moto3), currently third in the overall standings, finished 8th fastest on 1m 54.201s. Last grand prix winner Andrea Migno (SKY Racing Team VR46) sank to 18th place, 1.458 seconds off the pace.
The Moto3™ race is scheduled for tomorrow at 11 am.
