Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya unveiled today the official image of the FORMULA 1 ARAMCO GRAN PREMIO DE ESPAÑA 2021. It is supported on art and illustration, combining again this unique artistic discipline with motorsports.
On this occasion, the Spanish illustrator and copywriter David Despau has been the one in charge to perform this major assignment. The designed image represents three fundamental elements in a Grand Prix, based on its colours and protagonists.
On the one hand, the race as such, with the black colour predominating, representing the tarmac, the tyres and the adrenaline caused by speed. Then there are the drivers and their cars. Current World Champion Lewis Hamilton stands out, joined by the two Spanish representatives, Carlos Sainz and the returned, two times World Champion, Fernando Alonso. Last but not least, the bright colours of each of their teams -Mercedes, Ferrari and Alpine- melt with the black colour to represent Barcelona, the Mediterranean city that hosts the Grand Prix, which is also represented by the Sagrada Familia, one of the most emblematic places of the city.
David Despau has a broad background behind him and has published in magazines, such as “Time”, “The New York Yorker”, “Harper’s Bazar”, “L’Equipe”, “Car and Driver”, “ESPN”, “Sports Illustrated”, “GQ”, among many others. He has also worked for brands like Porsche, Kinder, Burton, DC Comics, Warner Bros, Paramount, Coty France, Estrella Damm… He is recognised as one of the 100 most influential illustrators in the world by the Taschen editorial in “100 Illustrators”.
