The Royal Spanish Motorsport Federation (RFEdeA) has awarded Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya with the Environmental Sustainability Award, recognising the commitment of the racetrack to the environment and its continuous innovation efforts to raise the awareness of society about the respect towards the natural environment.
The award was presented during the traditional Gala of Champions, which is organised every year by the Royal Spanish Motorsport Federation in Madrid. Primi Pérez, responsible for environmental affairs at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, collected the award from Manuel Aviñó, President of the Royal Spanish Motorsport Federation and Ian Burt, founder of Drive Smart.
The management carried out by Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has been awarded in recent years with several recognitions thanks to its commitment to the environment. The first step was the achievement, as the first road racing circuit of the world, of the ISO 14001 Environmental Certificate in 2008. Then came the Environmental Award by the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) which the Circuit already received twice, namely in 2012 and in 2016 and the Achievement of Excellence awarded by the Sustainability Programme of the FIA Institute, in 2015.
