Carlos Sainz and Daniil Kvyat unveiled today the new STR12 with which they are going to be racing this season. Both Toro Rosso drivers will be testing the new machine this week at the Formula One Test Days that will be held at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. With its flashy colours (blue, red and silver), the car looks attractive and flamboyant. Sainz and Kvyat have made a positive assessment of the colour design of the single-seater and are looking forward to getting sporting references and conclusions during the tests at the Circuit.
“The car looks great, and beautiful cars are usually fast”, explained the Madrid-born driver, who admitted that it is a great pleasure for him to have the tests at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. “It is my second home”. Sainz does not want to set any targets for this new season before the first race in Australia. “The targets will be set after the first Grand Prix”, he stated. “I don’t know if I’m going to be ahead or behind Alonso and I hope that I’ll be able to fight him again. Moreover, I’m convinced that the new regulations are going to suit me well”, he concluded. Sainz will be the Toro Rosso driver to lap on Monday. And on 9 March he will be in charge of leading a guided tour around the Circuit with a reduced group of people during a charity activity of the Wings of Life project.
Kvyat explained that he feels well both physically and mentally, and that he hopes to make a good season. “You never know where you will be, but this year the team wants to finish the season in better positions than in the previous one”, explained the Russian driver. “We have to get onto the track and see how the car works, we have a lot of work ahead, everything is new, the engine, the aerodynamics, and there is a lot of work yet to be done“.
Haas and Red Bull presented their cars today as well. The Austrian team presented their single-seater with a video and hasn’t unveiled the days on which Verstappen and Ricciardo are going to be testing yet. Haas presented their car online and will be showing it tomorrow at 7:50h in the morning on the pit lane of the Circuit.
The Formula One Test Days are going to start at the Circuit tomorrow, with the following drivers already having been confirmed for the first day: Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari), Sergio ‘Checo’ Pérez (Force India), Felipe Massa (Williams), Fernando Alonso (McLaren), Carlos Sainz (Toro Rosso), Kevin Magnussen (Haas) and Marcus Ericsson (Sauber).
