Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has completed another season at full capacity both in terms of on-track and off-track activity. This is backed by the figures. Before closing the year, the Catalan track has taken stock of this 2024, an extraordinary year in every sense.

THE YEAR IN FIGURES

  • 812,755 Attendees

The Circuit has opened its doors to a total of 812,755 visitors this year 2024. This is the highest number of the last 15 years and the seventh in the history of the track.

The event that gathered the largest number of attendees was once again the FORMULA 1 ARAMCO GRAN PREMIO DE ESPAÑA 2024, with a total of 297,368 attendees throughout the four days of the event. On Sunday, 125,210 people attended the Circuit. This is the fifth most attended edition in the history of Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, only surpassed by the 2007, 2006, 2008 and 2005 editions in that order.

In second place follows the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya de MotoGP™, with 176,684 attendees in three days, 76,684 fans on Sunday alone. In third place is the Solidarity Grand Prix of Barcelona. A total of 134,848 people visited the Circuit during the three days of activity.

  • 89% Occupation Rate

The Circuit closes the 2024 season with an occupation rate of 89%, and a total of 325 days of activity. This figure can be broken down into 225 days of rentals and 100 days of competition. Twenty days have been spent on works and maintenance tasks on the track and there have been 21 days without activity. The 89% occupancy rate is one of the highest figures of the last decade, only surpassed by that of 2023 and 2017 (91%).

Apart from the activity on the track, year after year the Circuit is consolidating itself as a venue capable of hosting a wide range of events due to the diversity of spaces available. Among the experiences that have been held at the facility, test sessions (car, motorcycling and cycling competitions), business and training days, driving courses, filming, launches, educational visits, charity events and concerts, among others, stand out.

AN EXTRAORDINARY SEASON

  • Formula 1 Barcelona Fan Festival

This year’s F1 Grand Prix was exceptional not only because of the attendance figures and the organisational success of the event, but also because the city of Barcelona, historically linked to motor racing, was once again thrilled by an unforgettable show that brought F1 closer to all citizens with the RoadShow and the Fan Village. Nearly 120,000 people came to the Formula 1 Barcelona Fan Festival and were able to enjoy the many activities organised around F1 for a week, thanks also to the complicity and collaboration of all the institutions.

  • Solidarity Grand Prix of Barcelona

It has been a special year that was crowned with the award for the best GP of the 2024 MotoGP season. Unexpectedly and against the clock, the Circuit, together with Dorna (promoter of the MotoGP World Championship), organised the Solidarity Grand Prix of Barcelona -the last round of the World Championship- in just ten days. A major logistical challenge that the Circuit took on after the Grand Prix that was to be held at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia had to be cancelled due to the flash floods that affected the region of Valencia. The response from all parties involved, including the public, could not have been better. 134,848 people filled the venue showing a huge gesture of solidarity towards all the victims in this extraordinary solidarity event that managed to raise 1.6 million euros for Valencia.

  • The Rooftop and the transformation of the Circuit

This year Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has undergone a deep transformation that has renewed a large part of its facilities, making it one of the best tracks in the world. Among the new features, the creation of the ‘Rooftop’, the new iconic element of the Circuit, awarded with the New Industrial Achievement Award of the Bonaplata Awards 2024, stands out. All these improvements, framed within the Strategic Plan presented in 2022, aim at adapting the Circuit to the new needs, promoting a more sustainable, innovative, industrial and digital model with the aim of turning the venue into a key infrastructure for the country’s industry, open to all kinds of events and activities.

MORE COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY

With the aim of being a driving force for change towards a sustainable economy, the Circuit has promoted actions that have accompanied each of the sporting events. In fact, the commitment of the venue to sustainability has been reinforced this 2024 after being chosen as the second most sustainable circuit in the world. Among the milestones achieved, there is one to be highlighted: the facility currently generates 50% of the energy consumed annually by the Circuit, thus taking another step towards energy self-sufficiency and decarbonisation.
