Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is already making the final preparations to start track activity again. Since December 2021, the World Championship track has been undergoing multiple improvements in several areas of its facilities. With a large part of them already completed, there are others, however, that will be combined with the current sport season until the summer.
Changes on the track
- Among the most significant and obvious changes, there is one particular point on the track, Turn 4. As a safety measure, the run-off area of this corner has been widened for riders and drivers.
- The pit-lane fence has also been replaced, making it a safer place for teams, officials and participants who are usually there.
- As every year, other more common improvements have been made, such as a renewed kerb at Turn 3, the installation of a new tyre barrier protection system called “conveyor belt” or the removal of the “astro turf” from almost all areas.
Changes in the paddock
- The paddock area is another focus of attention. At the end of last year, the toilets in the towers were completely refurbished.
- The pavement of the paddock itself is also being modified, installing a new drainage system, and thus creating new telecom pipes. As this is a very large area of land, this particular project has been divided into three phases which will be carried out until this summer.
- A double hydrocarbon separator, a tank that separates hydrocarbons from water, has been installed, which is another step forward in terms of sustainability.
- The doors of each of the garages will also be changed on the inside façade facing the paddock, as was already done with the outside doors facing the pit-lane. These doors will be mechanised and slightly wider than the previous ones.
Other elements
Apart from the aforementioned works and modifications, the World Championship track will also add some elements that complete the improvement and effectiveness of its daily activity, such as the implementation of new cameras around the track.
