Roger Torrent, Catalan Minister of Business and Employment, has been appointed President of Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
The Board of Directors of Circuits de Catalunya, S.L. has ratified the appointment of Roger Torrent following the proposal made by the Government of the Generalitat de Catalunya, and takes over from the previous president of the sports facility, Ramon Tremosa.
Roger Torrent i Ramió (Sarrià de Ter, 1979) holds a degree in Political and Administration Science from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and a master’s degree in Territorial and Urban Studies from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and Pompeu Fabra University (UPF). Postgraduate degree in Land and Urban Planning Law from the UPF.
A town planning technician, he has been involved in municipal politics since he was young. In 1999 he became a councillor in the Sarrià de Ter Town Council and in 2007 he was elected mayor, a responsibility he held until 2018, when he became president of the Catalan Parliament. In 2012 he headed the electoral list of the ERC party for the Girona constituency in the elections to the Catalan Parliament, where he was elected as a member of parliament.
During his time as a member of the Catalan Parliament, he has been deputy spokesman for the Junts pel Sí parliamentary group and economic spokesman in the chamber (11th legislature). He was also a member of the Business and Employment Commission and was a member of the presentation of the drafts of the bills on cooperatives, on the modification of the Consumer Code and on the tax on empty homes (10th legislature).
