The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobilisme (FIA) has renewed again the top sustainability accreditation to Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The Circuit has been granted the accreditation of the FIA’s sustainability programme with the level of Excellence, the “Three-Star Level” of the FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme.
Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has been holding this certification since 2015, the year in which the facilities became the first Formula 1 racetrack to achieve it, thanks to its commitment to sustainability.
The FIA highlighted in its report that the Circuit “has shown to have a strong environmental management system and a large and solid experience. […] Since the last accreditation process by the FIA in 2017, the FIA auditor has obtained evidence about the use of 100% renewable energy from the provider Estabanell Energia, about the implementation of the Circuit Forest project and the ‘Stop Food Waste’ campaign, with which a total of 3200 kg of food were collected and donated”.
The Catalan racetrack continues with its 3C Management “Conscience, Commitment and Coherence”, committed to achieving a zero CO2 footprint in 2030, thus participating in and contributing to the ambitious Sustainability Plan declared recently by Formula 1 within the framework of the SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) of the United Nations.
The continuous improvement in sustainability is a priority for the organisation, that has been certified according to the ISO 14001 standard since 2008. This priority has been recognised with several awards from other entities such as the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM).
