Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has achieved the ISO 14001 certificate with the new 2015 version, after undergoing the external audit by the certification entity Cámara Certifica, a service promoted by Cambra de Barcelona. Thus, the Catalan racetrack has become the first racetrack worldwide to achieve it.
The Circuit was already groundbreaking in 2008 when it received the first certificate. It is worth reminding that Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has adopted firm commitments to the environment in order to achieve a sustainable development in line with the international agreements of the COP21-22 and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Through the certification of the environmental management system according to ISO 14001:2015, the Circuit is promoting a sustainable management of all of its impacts: a responsible consumption of resources, a sustainable mobility encouraging the use of public transport, the electric vehicle and the bicycle, Zero Waste promoting the circular economy by means of the valuation of generated waste, and the protection of biodiversity keeping green spaces and plant species.
All of these actions are supported by communication efforts in order to encourage a responsible behaviour and synergies with the stakeholders to add value all together and raise awareness among the public in general.
The 3C Commitment of Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya -Conscience, Commitment and Coherence- to sustainability has been recognised in recent years with different awards, such as the “FIM Environment Award” in the years 2012 and 2016, the Excellence award by the sustainability programme of the FIA Institute and the Award to Environmental Sustainability by the Royal Spanish Motorsport Federation.
