MotoGP and the Motul Solidarity Grand Prix of Barcelona, which took place last November at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, raised 1.6 million euros for the Valencian Community and those affected by the consequences of the DANA.
This figure comes from all the fundraising initiatives that took place both during the staging of the Grand Prix at the Catalan facilities and online, as well as various donations such as the one from Dorna Sports (the company that holds the MotoGP™ rights), which has contributed 1 million euros.
Thanks to the generosity of MotoGP™ riders, teams and fans, the on-site and online auctions, with unique items that are already part of the history of this sport, raised more than 300,000 euros.
The teams, through their association IRTA, raised an additional 100,000 euros, while the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce donated 50,000 euros. The figure was also increased thanks to the initiative of the Catalan business institutions together with Fira de Barcelona, Dorna and the Circuit with the creation of the ‘Solidarity Row Zero’ tickets.
Through the sale of tickets and T-shirts, every fan also did their bit for the cause, filling the Circuit and selling out all the tickets on sale.
Given the context of the Solidarity GP of Barcelona, both Dorna Sports and the Circuit worked hard to offer the best possible end of the season, with solidarity at the forefront. This has been highlighted with the award for the Best GP of the 2024 season.
The total amount of the 1.6 million will go for the recovery of the towns closest to Circuit Ricardo Tormo, such as Cheste and Chiva, towns that usually receive an economic impact when hosting the last Grand Prix of the season.
Both Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and Dorna Sports would like to thank each and every one of the people who have contributed with their solidarity to make this Grand Prix a success and to help thousands of people in Valencia.
