Within the framework of the FORMULA 1 PIRELLI GRAN PREMIO DE ESPAÑA 2022, the Circuit will promote a wide range of actions framed within its 3C management philosophy in sustainability (with conscience, commitment and coherence) integrating social, economic and environmental aspects. Under the slogan “Driving for a better future”, it works to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals of the UNEP Agenda 2030.
- 100% renewable energy and promotion of the use of sustainable generators
Since 2017, the Circuit’s energy is 100% of certified renewable origin, in order to always try to achieve the 0 footprint. In addition, this year the rented light towers will feature LED technology to reduce consumption. The generators that will help cover the paddock’s energy needs during the event will also be low-emission.
- Waste management and circular economy
The best waste is no waste. The Circuit eliminates single-use plastic water containers thanks to the use of water fountains in all its buildings. Moreover, the use of these fountains is facilitated in all the motorhomes of the teams that need them. In addition, reusable cups are distributed in the bars of the public areas. All domestic waste from the event is separated into containers for organic waste, packaging, cardboard, glass and oils. Furthermore, the efficient management of this waste is encouraged from collection to transport, in order to promote its recovery. With waste such as used tyres, the Circuit carries out circular economy actions, giving them another life with different uses, such as plant planters.
- Stop Waste Food campaign and food donation
To raise awareness about the food waste is as important as not wasting it at all. Therefore, and in order to raise awareness among everyone at the facilities, this message will be shown on several boards. Nevertheless, the reality is that after four days of Grand Prix a large amount of surplus food is generated. The Catalan track will once again donate this surplus to social organisations in the region, an action that has been bearing fruit for many years, with more than 11,000 kg donated since 2017.
- Zero KM products
With the support of all catering providers, the encouragement of Zero Km gastronomy implies supporting local producers and craftsmen, making an ecological consumption, with seasonal and proximity products. All the bars of the Circuit and the hospitality spaces offer this kind of Zero Km gastronomy, with healthy and environmentally friendly food, in order to avoid long transport journeys and the consequent CO2 emissions.
- Sustainable forestry and connection with nature
Spectators can enjoy an educational forest, the Crater Forest, with an extension of almost 2 hectares, which has been sustainably managed since 2019. Since that year, proposals such as the Insect Hotel, the Path of the Senses or the aromatic plants corner have been devised.
- Sustainability stand
In the public areas (specifically in the Green Zone and in the Fan Zone, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) there will be two sustainability stands, the Sustainability Meeting Points. These areas aim to raise awareness about environmental care and also to disseminate the sustainable actions carried out by the Circuit. They also display some environmental recognitions received by the racetrack.
- Sustainable Mobility
The special public transport programme will make it easier, more comfortable and sustainable to get to the Circuit. Moreover, this year, the electric vehicles of the Red Cross will once again allow people with disabilities to move around the Circuit venue, always accompanied by volunteers.
- BY BUS: The Sagalés buses will depart from the Barcelona city centre, from the Estación del Norte de Autobuses bus station (Ali Bei, 80), on platforms 25, 26 and 27. This location allows connection with the metro and the RENFE Commuter Train services (Cercanías), located next to Arc de Triomf. Arrivals will take place in front of the Sorli Discau supermarket. The service will be available on all three days of the event from 8 a.m., with departures every 20 minutes on Friday, every 10 minutes on Saturday and every 5 minutes on Sunday. The tickets cost 18 Euros and are booked at Sagalés (902 13 00 14 / sagales.com).
The transfer from Montmeló Station to the Circuit will also be provided, using hybrid buses. On Saturday and Sunday there will be 3 sustainable minibuses offering a shuttle service with a stop at all gates. There will be another bus to make the journey to the Accreditation Centre.
- BY TRAIN: Renfe reinforces the services of Line R2 North of the commuter train service Cercanías de Catalunya with 50,000 additional seats. On 21 and 22 May, a special schedule has been established to ensure an average frequency of 15 minutes on the Montmeló – Barcelona connection at the times when most passengers are expected to travel between the two stations.
In addition, passengers arriving on AVE-Larga Distancia (long distance) trains to the Sants train station will have connections to Montmeló on the R2 commuter train line, without additional cost.
To facilitate the mobility of fans, Renfe is reinforcing its service with 38 special daily trains, in addition to the usual offer of the R2 Nord line (Airport – Barcelona – Montmeló – Maçanet). This increase for the Grand Prix will complete the Renfe service to Montmeló at weekends, which consists of 74 trains a day, 37 in each direction, with a daily offer of 81,400 seats.
In order to provide for an easier and quicker ticket purchase, Renfe has programmed the ticket vending machines so that the first ticket displayed on the screen will be a return ticket to Montmeló. Travellers wishing more detailed information can call +34 900 41 00 41, or check the Cercanías App or the website www.rodaliesdecatalunya.cat.
The Circuit encourages all the people involved in the event to contribute to the actions for a sustainable management of this Grand Prix.
