Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has donated a total of 1,520 kg of food, all of it collected from the teams at the end of the Formula 1 Pre-Season Testing. El Xiprer, a foundation that works as food bank and also takes-in the most disadvantaged people, has been the local entity chosen to receive the donation for another year.
The world championship caravan of the FIA Formula One World Championship was set-up for two weeks at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya to complete the pre-season of the championship. All of the teams end-up generating a high volume of non-consumed food and surplus products. The task of the Catalan racetrack is to give a new life to this food, a destination, since it is usually wasted as it was not consumed before the end of the event. It is food like vegetables, fruit, meat and fish, frozen food, dairy, pasta, canned food, beverages and others.
The ten teams of the World Championship, as well as the official tyre supplier Pirelli, and the FIA joined this initiative which year after year has managed to increase the amount of food collected.
Actions like this are continued throughout the year, framed within the No Food Waste Campaign. In fact, since 2016, the Circuit is working in order to give an end to food waste, as it happens at events like the FORMULA 1 GRAN PREMIO DE ESPAÑA or the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya de MotoGP™. This is another way to reduce the environmental impact of the events staged at the Circuit, which is certified according to ISO 14001 since 2008, performing pioneering actions in terms of sustainability.
