Sustainability
Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is fully committed to working on continuous improvement in order to achieve a sustainable development in its activity, involving all stakeholders of the world of motor sports in its mission “Driving for a better future”, and becoming a benchmark in the sector.
The Circuit bases its development on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG Agenda 2030) prioritising environmental, socio-cultural and economic balance.
In this regard, since 2008 it has been ISO 14001 certified and holds, since 2015, the Environmental Excellence Certificate (Three Stars) awarded by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), making it the first F1 track to obtain both certifications.
Since 2020 it has also been certified with the BIOSPHERE Commitment seal, in accordance with the principles of the World Charter for Sustainable Tourism, and since 2022 it has had its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) management system certified in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.
Moreover, the Circuit extends this commitment to sustainability to all its stakeholders. To further strengthen this involvement, from 2021, the following international competitions hosted by the facility have been certified in ISO 20121:2013 management: Formula 1 Gran Premio de España, Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya de MotoGP and the 24 Hours of Catalonia Motorcycling race.
As stated in the Strategic Plan 2022-2024 of Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, the aim of the venue is to be a driving force for change towards a sustainable economy and, in this sense, it works year after year to incorporate new improvements in the environmental management of the infrastructure and its activity, as well as to renew all the certifications in force.
