In order to take care of the environment, Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is constantly working to minimise the consumption of resources and the generation of waste, promoting the use of recycled materials, the use of renewable energy sources and the recovery of waste; it collaborates with its suppliers and subcontractors to improve the respect and protection of the environment; it promotes communication and training of all employees to guarantee a correct environmental performance and raises awareness among the public and all interested parties on the protection of the environment.
Below is a list of some of the actions and improvements that have been implemented at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya involving the stakeholders over the last few years:
TO REDUCE EMISSIONS
- From 2017, electricity supply from 100% renewable sources.
- Rental of sustainable generators
- Km0 offer in catering
- Sustainable mobility offer at the Grand Prix. Sagalés, RENFE, electric car, car sharing, cycling.
- 7 electric vehicle charging points, two of them for TESLA vehicles. 5 vehicles of the Circuit’s internal fleet are electric. In 2022, 6 additional electric vehicle charging points have been installed for internal use. These points obtain energy from the photovoltaic panels on the roof of the canopies where they are installed.
- Plan to minimise the acoustic impact of the Circuit.
ZERO WASTE
- Green point for selective collection of household waste for recovery with the collaboration of Ecoembes.
- STOP FOOD Waste campaign for the public.
- Donation of surplus food from teams participating in races and events to the El Xiprer Foundation social diner.
IMPROVEMENT OF BIODIVERSITY
- Sustainable forest management of the Crater Forest, currently with BOSCAT.
- Planting of the Universia-Santander Forest with 300 trees.
SOCIO-CULTURAL COMMITMENT
- Working with organisations and companies that promote the integration of people at risk of exclusion into the labour market, such as the Centre for Integration Initiatives (CIRE).
- Hosting solidarity events such as La Marató de TV3, GP Fundación Isidre Esteve and Cheers4U, among others.
- Working with companies to improve the facility and its accessibility.
Annually, all environmental impacts are quantified using objective and traceable indicators to promote continuous improvement based on data.
